Measure the foot of your bed first. Our boxes are 102cm wide, which sits neatly at the end of a double or king. In front of a small double, a slightly narrower footprint or a pouffe often looks better balanced.
Leave walking space. Allow at least 60cm between the box and the wall or wardrobe, or you'll be shuffling past it every morning.
Match or contrast, but decide deliberately. Matching the headboard fabric gives a calm, coordinated look. A contrasting shade — mustard against navy, say, or cream against charcoal — makes the piece a feature. Both work; drifting halfway between the two doesn't.
Think about what's going inside. Bulky winter bedding needs the depth of a storage box. If you're storing smaller things you reach for daily, drawers in a divan base may serve you better.
